Damaris Lennon Phillips was born on December 8, 1980, to May and Maurice Phillips in Lexington, Kentucky, and grew up in an urban town of Louisville with her sister and four brothers. A foodie at heart, Damaries fell in love with the Southern foods she grew up eating.
Without having a clue what other careers to follow, Damaris settled for a cooking school. She attended Jefferson Community and Technical College, where she earned a degree in culinary arts. She then became a culinary instructor.

Damaris married Darrick Wood on June 13, 2015. Darrick Wood is an education consultant. Their wedding took place in Willow Park in Louisville (Kentucky) and was attended by 235 guests.
“I was so excited to marry Darrick, I would have gone to court, but it was more fun – and a lot prettier,” Damaris said.
Damaris had a DIY but fancy wedding. From her brooch bouquet she learned to make from Pinterest to paper, the origami paper cranes formed a backdrop to the booth where they exchanged vows… Papers containing 1000 tickets included tickets, receipts and notes that Darrick had kept them during his three years in court. Guests were gifted vintage handkerchiefs “for tears of joy.” They also received a fan who served a dual role as he carried the day’s wedding program.
Since Darrick is vegetarian, Damaris had to ignore his love for pork to have a completely meatless menu at the reception. The menu included colorful salads and vegetable and hummus sandwiches on parmesan focaccia.
The celebration also included an outdoor lounge complete with sofas and lounge tables, picnic blankets all prepared for cocktail hour.
All the wedding cakes were homemade by Damaris and Darrick. The cakes included; Strawberry covered in chocolate, caramel corn, cherry-almond and blackberry cake.
