Dutch singer and songwriter, Floor Jansen is the lead singer of the symphonic metal band Nightwish. Unlike many other great singers, Floor didn’t discover she had the talent to sing until she was 15. She therefore began her musical career in 1997, at the age of 16.

Singing career

Floor Jansen has had a rather successful career that spans over two decades.

She started at the age of 16 with the group Apocalypse, which later took the name After Forever. With the group, she released two demo albums in 1999; Instant and Wings of Illusion. The group’s debut album, Prison of Desire was released in 2000. It was followed by four other albums – Déchiffrer (2001), Cercles invisibles (2004), Remaginer (2005), and Après pour Toujours (2007). She was the band’s lead vocalist as well as its main songwriter.

After the group left the group in 2009, she launched ReVamp the same year. In 2010, ReVamp released her debut album, Reorganize which was followed by Wild Card in 2013. In 2012, she joined Nightwish as a temporary replacement for Anette Olzon. However, she later became a member, which led to ReVamp disbanding in 2016.

Although she released other works including live albums and a few singles with Nightwish, she only had one studio album with the band, The Most Beautiful Shapes (2015).

In 2018 she released another album Towards the North (2018) with her new project Northward started by Jansen and guitarist Jørn Viggo Lofstad.

Floor is not the only member of her family to be a singer, her brother, Irene Jansen, Floor’s older sister, is also a musician. The two sisters worked together as singers. Irene was born in 1983 and has been singing since 1993.
