Jamie Colby was born on December 21, 1970, in Forest Hills, New York, United States. Her father, Marty Colby, is a television director, while her mother was a housewife. She has one brother, Jonathan T. Colby, who is currently a Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Judge in Florida.

Colby was 12 when his parents divorced. She then moved to Miami with her brother in Miami, where they were both raised by their mother.

Colby’s flair for productivity and hard work began when she was young. As a child, she appeared in KC & The Sunshine Band commercials and worked at Burger King. Jamie, an exceptionally bright girl, headed for college as a teenager.

At the age of 14, she was admitted to the University of Miami School of International Business where she earned a degree in accounting. In 1993, at the age of 22, Colby also earned a JD from the University of Miami Law School.

Colby then began practicing law in private practice for a decade. She started out with a Hollywood entertainment company, Henry Bushkin, working for Joan Rivers and Johnny Carson, among others. Soon after, she became a law professor.

So how did a practicing lawyer suddenly discover broadcast journalism? Colby moved to New York and was asked to wait six months for the state bar to approve his license to work there.

During this waiting period, a lawyer friend of hers, who represented the journalists, asked her if she would replace one of her clients, a legal and mainstream journalist on local NBC channels who was on maternity leave. A natural workaholic, Colby quickly jumped at the chance. She was enthusiastic about sharing her legal experience with the masses.

And don’t think she adopted a local radio station diva attitude that viewers could barely afford. As she told Forbes magazine in January 2015, she works as a team and has even had to sweep floors, tear up scripts and refill the printer when the need arises.

Journalist career

Colby quickly excelled in journalism. Starting with WPIX-TV and WNYW-TV, in New York, Colby went on to become an anchor and reporter for CBS News, then a correspondent for Cable News Network (CNN).

Her journalism career gained a lot of attention after she joined Fox in 2003. Colby covered a wide range of topics and stories nationally and internationally. She covered the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. She covered the 2004 Southeast Asian tsunami in India and Sri Lanka.

Colby has covered his legal side, Martha Stewart’s insider trading trial, Kobe Bryant’s sexual assault trial and more. She exclusively interviewed former Florida Governor Jeb Bush ahead of the 2012 presidential election and pop star Madonna for her debut book ‘The English Rose’.

Before becoming the host of Strange Inheritance in 2015, Colby was a co-host of “America’s News Headquarters,” which aired on weekends.

Colby has won many accolades as a journalist. In 2000, she received the Gracie Allen Award for her investigative reporting. In 2002, she received a national Edward R. Colby then married renowned surgical oncologist Dr. Marc Wallace who is about 20 years older than her. After years of marriage, they separated in 2011. Their divorce came as a shock to her fans who admired her for her attachment to Wallace as he battled a heart condition that forced him to undergo surgery.

They even co-wrote a book called “Back to Life After a Heart Attack: A Doctor and His Wife Share Their Eight-Step Back-to-Back Plan,” where they explain how they dealt with Wallace’s post-surgery depression.
