Seeing how successful she has become in herself, it’s no surprise to learn that Jessica hails from a very musically connected family. But did you know that his family’s commitment to music was such that the Mauboy has been described as “the loudest house on the block”? Find out more below.

Jessica Mauboy bio

Jessica Mauboy is Australian, she was born on August 4, 1989 in Darwin, Northern Territory. Her birth name is Jessica Hilda Mauboy and she has four sisters, three of whom are older: Sandra, Jenny and Catherine; and Sophia who is the youngest of their family. The girls were raised by their parents, Fred and Therese Mauboy, as well as having their grandmother, Harriett, present in their lives growing up.

As a child, Jessica Mauboy was educated at Wulagi Primary School and Sanderson High School in her birthplace, Darwin. She started playing music at an early age, which was obviously a family affair for the Mauboy’s. However, she left school at the age of 11 for reasons that we have not yet determined. Nevertheless, by her early teens, Jessica was already on the podium in various music competitions, including Telstra’s ‘Road to Tamworth’ at the 2004 Tamworth Country Music Festival in Tamworth, which she won.

Her emergence as the winner of the contest landed her a record deal with Sony Music Australia to record Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, a country-inspired Cyndi Lauper rendition. The work was not successful, but Jessica Mauboy needed more visibility to be able to continue dreaming of singing to the top.

In 2006, in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, on the 4th season of Australian Idol, Jessica Hilda took a step that became the genesis of why you seek information about her. The singing sensation auditioned for Australian Idol; a singing competition where she first sang Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing with which she won the lead from all three judges on the show. Mauboy finally raced to competition runner-up Damien Leith after he nearly lost the game due to a sore throat and should have been fired following his previous contract with Sony Music Australia. However, the contract had already expired by then and would not be relevant to his expulsion.

Following Jessica Mauboy’s spectacular talent hunt, Sony Music Australia re-signed her to Keep this time. His first work under the label was released on February 24, 2007 as a live album titled Le voyage. She then released her debut studio album titled Waiting in November 2008, which was followed by Get ’em girls (2010) and Belle (2013), all released under the Sony Music Australia label.

Family – Parents, Boyfriend or Partner

From an early age, Hilda was also a known member of her local choir where she sang with her grandmother. Back home, the Mauboys’ family home was hardly ever without the sound of music. Her father will compliment his wife’s singing with delightful guitar melodies, while the other family members will enhance their usual family concert with their melodious vocals. This family business has earned them the loudest house ever recognized in their neighborhood of Darwin, Northern Territory.

Jessica Mauboy’s father is an Indonesian from West Timor, he works as an electrician while his wife is an Indigenous Australian from the Kuku Yalanji people who reside in the far north forest regions of Queensland. It’s unclear how the family first got interested in music, but as we know it paid off with Jessica honoring the family name as an R&B and pop singer, songwriter and by extension actress.

The music star started a long distance relationship with Themeli Magripilis in January 2009 and in September 2016 she moved in with him at his home in Sydney. The two are however not yet married but widely recognized as each other’s partners.
