So many years have passed and yet Jim Morrison is still very much alive. Although he was not blessed with a long life, he made his mark in the short time he was on Earth. He was a singer, songwriter, and poet whose personality and performances have placed him as one of the most famous lead singers in rock music history.
In 1965, alongside his friend Ray Manzarek, Jim founded a rock band called The Doors. Two years after the group’s debut, they didn’t make waves until the single. “Light My Fire” dropped . The band went on to make other big hits like ‘ Break On Through’, ‘The End’, ‘Moonlight Drive’, ‘People are Strange’, ‘Hello I Love You’, Roadhouse Blues,” “LA Femme,” and “Riders on the Storm”
In the 1960s he drank heavily and became so addicted that he began to underperform on stage. He would get so high on stage with booze and whisper his lyrics, much to the chagrin of his fans. Jim never got out of it until his death.
Morrison has received plenty of post-humous awards, including 47th on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Singers of All Time” list. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and entered Classic Rock magazine’s “50 Greatest Singers in Rock” at the 22nd hour.
Early childhood details and background
Jim was born to James Douglas Morrison on December 8, 1943 in Melbourne, Florida. Although Jim once declared himself as an only child (under the influence of alcohol, of course), it is on file that he had two siblings. Anne Robin is Jim’s younger sister, born in 1947 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Andrew Lee Morrison is his younger brother, born in 1948 in Los Altos, California.
Jim Morrison’s educational life saw him move from place to place, largely due to his father’s military commitments. He completed third grade at Fairfax County Elementary School in Fairfax County, Virginia before moving to Kingsville, Texas where he attended Charles H. Flato Elementary School. He went to two other schools before graduating from sixth grade at Longfellow School, San Diego, California.
He started high school at Alameda High School in Alameda, California, and finished at George Washington High School, Alexandria, Virginia. After graduating from high school, he moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of California, Los Angeles. He graduated from the Performing Arts Department of the College of Fine Arts there in 1965.
Father, wife or girlfriend and children
His father was Rear Admiral George Stephen Morrison. He led United States naval forces in the Gulf of Tonkin incident. This informed US involvement in the Vietnam War in 1965. He was a war hero. As part of the recognition of his selfless service to the United States, he was decorated with numerous medals and insignia, including the United Nations Service Medal, Navy Distinguished Service Medal , United States Defense Service Medal , World War II Victory Medal, and much more.
Jim Morrison was known to have been involved in several sexual and romantic relationships throughout his career. The list of ladies he had been involved with included Pamela Des Barres, Nico, singer Velvet Underground, Grace Slick, Gloria Stavers, and Janis Joplin.
Amidst all his adventures, he still had a longtime girlfriend, Pamela Courson. Most people close to Jim described the relationship as very charged and intense. They met in college and she was there for him, until he died. Although they never married, she added the surname Morrison to hers. Fellow band member Ray Manzarek called her “Jim’s other half”.
Officially, Jim Morrison had no children. However, it is possible that some of the women he worked with gave birth to children for him. The suspicions are based on the number of paternity lawsuits that were filed against him when he died.
Jim Morrison Height
He had a very tall body and stood 1.8 meters tall. This probably added to the reason why most ladies wanted him and also contributed to his career as a musician.
Cause of death
Jim died on July 3, 1971. He had just turned 27 when he died. He was found dead in a bathtub by his girlfriend, Pamela Courson. Although no autopsy was performed, he was thought to have died of heart failure. Jim was a chronic alcoholic and was losing weight. He had probably damaged his heart with excessive drinking.
