Mike Seidel – Bio (Age)
He was born on January 18, 1956 in Salisbury, Maryland to his parents whose names are not known. Mike Seidel attended Wicomico High School. He then continued his graduate studies at Salisbury State College. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics after a successful stay in school. Mike’s inclination to weather began at a very young age.
At the age of six he was already very fond of measuring the snowfall in Salisbury where he grew up. It didn’t end, Mike impressed everyone when he installed a weather station on the roof of his house. Amazingly, he was in eighth grade at the time. It was clear to those close to him the path he would take in the future. When the time came for him to choose a career, Seidel didn’t hesitate to follow his instincts. He had also majored in geography while at Salisbury State College.
While in school, Mike Seidel also worked with some radio stations in his hometown; it helped him gain more experience. After his first degree, he continued his studies at Pennsylvania State University where he obtained a master’s degree in meteorology. He was exposed to more weather conditions during his master’s program in Pennsylvania. At the time, he was working under Dr. Greg Forbes, who later became a weather expert on The Weather Channel. He also made guest appearances on “Weather World,” which airs on the Pennsylvania Public Television Network.
In the early 80s, Mike Seidel, who was already done with school and had amassed a lot of experience during his training days, joined WYFF-TV in Greenville, South Carolina as a full-time meteorologist. . This was after working with WMDT-TV for two years. The specialist meteorologist worked at WYFF-TV for more than five years before leaving in 1989 for WBOC-TV in Salisbury. He then left the team in 1992 to join The Weather Channel. In 1996, he made his first coverage against Hurricane Edward.
Achievements of the meteorologist
The talented meteorologist has been a regular face on the Weather Channel with his coverage of over 50 tropical storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, ice storms and more. Mike Seidel became the first Weather Channel meteorologist to report live from Cuba. It was during “Tropical Storm Isaac” which rocked the country in mid-2012. In fact, Mike’s coverage of the storm not only made him the first Weather Channel meteorologist to be broadcast live from Cuba, but also the first US meteorologist to achieve the feat.
January 12, 2018 snowstorm coverage in Rochester, NY, was his 20,000th live shot as a meteorologist; a remarkable step indeed. He appeared on different network programs serving accurate, intriguing and intriguing weather reports, while on The Weather Channel. Some of these programs include: TV shows like CBS The First Show, The CBS Evening News and CBS Sunday Mornings, NBC-TV ‘s Today Show, NBC Nightly News, and many more.
