Rand Paul is the son of an American doctor who became a politician, he himself became a doctor and later became a politician. He is currently a junior senator from Kentucky in the United States. Here’s more about him, his political career, his family and how much he’s worth.

Rand Paul Bio

Rand Paul, whose full name is Randal Howard Paul, was born on January 7, 1963, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, into a Christian household led by Ron Paul (Sr.) and his wife Carol (née Wells) Paul.

Rand was born as the middle child of his parents’ five children. Her siblings include Ronald Ronnie Paul Jr., Lori Paul Pyeatt, Robert Paul, and Joy Paul-LeBlanc. When Paul was still a toddler, his family moved from Pittsburgh to San Antonio, Texas, where they eventually settled in Lake Jackson.

He attended Brazoswood High School where he was an active participant on the school swim team in addition to playing as a defensive back for the football team. After high school, the Pittsburgh native enrolled to study at Baylor University and was there from 1981 to 1984. His time in college saw him join the varsity swim team in addition to becoming a member of the NoZe Brotherhood; a collegiate secret organization that first started as a joke back then. Rand Paul, however, would drop out of Baylor without completing his studies. He was then admitted to his father’s alma mater, Duke University School of Medicine, where he earned an medical degree in 1988 and completed his residency in ophthalmology in 1993.

Rand Paul began his medical career with a job at John Downing of the Downing McPeak Vision Center which saw him move to Bowling Green, Kentucky. He worked there for five years before moving to the Graves Gilbert Clinic where he remained for the next ten years before eventually establishing his own private practice. Paul specialized in cataracts, LASIK procedures, corneal transplants and glaucoma surgeries.

His philanthropic side has seen him perform free surgeries for children in developing countries as part of the Children of the Americas program. In addition to this, Paul founded the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic which caters to people who cannot afford eye exams or eye surgeries.

His political career

While at Baylor University, Rand Paul showed signs that he would take the path of politics later in life. He first became the leader of the Young Conservatives of Texas, and in response to President Bush’s tax hikes, he founded the North Carolina Taxpayers Union in 1991, followed by the Kentucky Taxpayers United (KTU), an organization anti-tax that he put in place in 1994.

Going back to 2008, he gained popularity among American voters when he ran for the US Senate as a Republican on November 2, 2010, defeating Attorney General Jack Conway. He was sworn in on January 5, 2011 and has since served as a US senator. Rand Paul has made productive contributions at various times as a committee member on Energy and Natural Resources, Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Homeland Security and Government Affairs, including including small business and foreign relations committees.

On April 7, 2015, he announced his intention to run for President of the United States, but after finishing 5th out of 12 Republicans vying for the position in the Iowa caucus on February 3, 2016, he announced the suspension of his campaign. From then to the present day, Rand Paul has served well as a United States Senator.

His family – father, wife and son

Her father Ron Paul was a United States politician who represented Texas in the House of Representatives and also ran for the seat of the US Presidency three times without success. He was born on August 20, 1935 in the Pittsburgh suburb of Green Tree, Pennsylvania.

He trained as a doctor at Duke University’s medical school, graduating in 1961, did his medical internship at Henry Ford Hospital, and did his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh. He began his career serving in the armed forces before starting his private practice in obstetrics and gynecology in Texas. Ron entered politics in 1971 and served in Congress from 1976 to 1977, from 1979 to 1985 and finally from 1997 to 2013.

Like most men his age, Rand Paul is a married man with children. He married Kelley Ashby Paul on October 20, 1990, and their marriage saw the birth of three children – all boys. Their first son William was born in 1992 and five years later (1997) Duncan Paul was born. The youngest of the 3, Robert Paul was born in the year 2000.

Kelley Ashby Paul was born on September 3, 1963 in Russellville, Kentucky into a military family headed by Hilton Ray Ashby and his wife Lillian (Wessell) Ashby. Growing up, her family moved around a lot and she even lived in Turkey at times.

Kelley graduated from Russellville High School before moving on to Rhodes College where she studied Communications and English. She met her husband in 1988 in Atlanta while he was studying for his medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine. The two developed a liking for each other and she even had to move to Durham with him after completing her studies at Duke University.

Since their marriage, they have lived together as a happy family and will probably continue to do so without tracing the path of disunity.

Rand Paul’s current net worth is not exactly known. Some sources reported him to be worth around $2.5 million while others reported slightly different numbers.

However, in 2015, it would have been widely worth around $1.3 million. So, by extrapolating based on this figure, one could still arrive at a figure that does not differ from what was previously estimated as his current net worth.
