Born on December 22, 1970 as Rafael Edward, TedCruz started out as a United States Senator from Texas and was a Republican candidate for President of the United States in the 2016 election.
Educational background
Cruz attended two private high schools – Faith West Academy and Second Baptist High School (in Bot, Texas), where he graduated in 1988.
He has a B.A in public policy from Princeton University. While at Princeton University, he began to show his interest in governance and his skills in public speaking. He competed for the American Whig-Cliosophic Society Debating Panel and was declared the winner of the best speaker award at the 1992 USA National Debating Championships and 1992 National Debating Championships.
The same year, Cruz, alongside his debate partner, David Panton, was named National President of the Year in the United States. They also earned Team of the Year from the American Parliament Debate Association.
After his bachelor’s degree at Princeton University, Cruz headed to Havard University where he earned a Doctor of Laws degree. At Havard he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review, an editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, he was also a founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review

Career
After graduating from Havard, Cruz worked briefly as a lawyer before joining the American League of Politicians. Cruz was successful as a lawyer and won many high profile cases. He began his political career in 2000 as an adviser to George W. Bush’s presidential campaign team. After serving on the Bush campaign team in 2003, Cruz was nominated by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to serve as Texas Solicitor General. he returned to private practice working with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.
His stay with private enterprise was also a huge free time. He successfully led the United States Supreme Court and the United States appellate litigation practice. Cruz also won two forfeiture convictions in New Mexico for a record $54 million.
He has personally sponsored 25 bills – including S.177, a bill to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the health care provisions of the Reconciliation Act of 2010 health care and education.
In 2012, Cruz announced his intention to run as a United States Senator. He got the support of Sarah, Rand Paul and the Tea Party – they all backed him up and gave him all the support he needed. In 2012 he became a winner.
In January 2013, he took office as a U.Senator representing Texas. As a U.S. Senator, Ted Cruz also served on several committees, including the Joint Economic Committee; the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee; the Rules and Administration Committee; the Judiciary Commission and the Armed Services Commission.
In 2015, he announced he was running for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination and chose Carly Fiorina as his running mate. Cruz officially announced his decision to suspend his campaign after losing to Trump in the Indiana primaries.

Ted’s father is a Cuban American and his mother is three quarters Irish and one quarter Italian. His mother, Eleanor Elizabeth, was born in Wilmington, Delaware, and earned a degree in mathematics from Rice University.
His father, Rafael Bienvenido Cruz was born in Cuba but left Cuba for the United States in 1957 to attend school. In the United States, he studied at the University of Texas and was granted political asylum after his four-year student visa expired. He became a naturalized American citizen in 2005.
He also has Canadian citizenship.At the time of Ted’s birth, his parents had been in Calgary for three years, where they owned a seismic data processing business for oil drilling.
Cruz is happily married to Heidi Nelson who he met while working as an adviser to George Bush’s presidential campaign team. The two men tied the knot in May 2001 and have two daughters, Caroline and Catherine.

Cruz’s political career was in jeopardy when an article in the National Enquirer alleged that the Texas senator was flirting with five different women.
The article included pixelated photos of the women allegedly involved with the senator but without mentioning their names. Of course, the senator denied the allegations and accused Donald Trump of being behind the tabloid report aimed at tarnishing his image.
Trump denied any connection to the report.
