The inspiration behind the series
Michelle and Robert King came up with the idea from the series of various sex scandals they witnessed in the politics of the United States. The Bill Clinton and John Edwards scandals were the most significant, leading them to wonder what happens to the wives of those politicians accused of such crimes. What really questioned them was what the wives of these men did even after these men finally admitted their crimes, knowing that some of these women had put their careers on hold for their husbands to pursue theirs, so what would be next for these women? The couple then decided to create a series based on their assumptions and research into such cases.
