It cannot be argued that Tyler Joseph has definitely worked and earned his way to the top. He is a producer, songwriter, singer, rapper and multi-instrumentalist. Starting in 2009 with a few friends and nothing but personal determination and courage, his duo music group Twenty One Pilots became one of the most beloved music groups today.

Twenty-one pilots have released numerous albums, with their most recognized songs Stressed and Pagan nominated for numerous Grammy Awards.

the biography

Tyler was born on December 1, 1988 to Christopher Anthony Joseph and Kelly Joseph in Columbus, Ohio. He had two brothers growing up – Zach Phillip Joseph who is also a singer and Jay Thomas Joseph. He also had a sister, Madison Grace Bett. He was homeschooled during his pre-high school years.

Tyler may have taken the athletics route given his early inspirations and the pursuits of his parents. Mom and dad both coached basketball at Olentangy Orange High School and Worthington Christian High School respectively. They were also a math teacher and principal as well.

Predictably, he played point guard in his high school of basketball at Worthington Christian High and even finished second in the 2008 Division IV tournament. Otterbein University offered him a scholarship basketball, but he rejected it because he was inspired by the music after seeing a songwriter perform a few songs at the High Street Club.

Tyler began teaching himself to play the keyboard by imitating radio melodies using an old keyboard his mother had bought him as a Christmas present. In high school, Tyler recorded and published a first title in the project. No Phun expected that he put free listening on his PureVolume account.

The inspiration for Twenty One Pilots came when Tyler was studying All My Sons, a play written by Authur Miller. It was about a man who had knowingly caused the deaths of twenty-one pilots during the Second World War by selling them defective parts so that he could save his company.

Professional music career

The group was born in 2009. He co-opted his high school friends, Nick Thomas and Chris Salih. Their first album was born on December 29 of the same year and they started touring for it. By the second album, Regional at Best, only two original members remained: Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun. They then released Vessel in 2013 and Blurred Surface in 2015, also embarking on three total tours for both releases.

They won a Grammy in 2017 for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song Stressed from their fourth studio album. The same album also peaked at number one on the American Alternative, American Chart, and Billboard 200 charts.

Tyler Joseph grew up in a Christian home and speaks clearly about his faith and how it inspires the lyrics he writes. It was featured in Joseph Micheal Langston (known as Jocef ) song Vivre, from his album In Search of: LOVE. Jocef returned the favor in 2011 when he featured in the song Be Concerned from Twenty One Pilot’s second album Regional at Best.

Tyler also took part in a comedy documentary by Five14 Church. The three-part documentary was titled The (Moderately Inspirational Tale of) Longboard Rodeo Tango. In 2013, he participated in the Church’s Christmas Eve event, Christmas with the Stars, in New Albany, Ohio. He also wrote songs for the Five14 Church gospel group, Whittaker. In December 2014, he provided backup vocals for Dallon Weekes’ song Sickly Sweet Holidays.

Tyler Joseph’s relationship with Jenner Black – wife

Tyler and Jenna Black dated for a bit before getting married. He said in an interview with Rolling Stone that there is nothing good about their history and how they met. However, he added that he was happy to get to know her better every day. They got engaged on July 18, 2014 and married seven months later on March 28, 2015. They have a baby girl.

The tatoos

The Twenty One Pilots lead singer doesn’t talk much about his tattoos. He says he doesn’t want their meanings to be misinterpreted the way things are once they hit the internet.

He does, however, admit to having a three-part tattoo representative of “something that saved his life.” The meaning of this phrase is believed to have religious connotations that refer to his Christian faith.

He and Josh Dun also have an “X” tattoo. Tyler is on his right bicep and Josh is on his neck. They were able to show their dedication to fans in their hometown of Columbus, Ohio. They had the matching tattoos on stage during their Pavilion of Living Communities show in Columbus in 2013.
